Magazine Covers
Recipient: Client's friends, a husband and wife
Occasion: 40th birthday for both, a few weeks apart.
The client told us the couple loves watching racecar driving, both on television and in person, and they rival over their respective favorite drivers. We were also told the couple is teased for their enormous garage, which is loaded with pictures and posters of various racecars and their drivers.

Recipient: Client's grandson
Occasion: 13th birthday
Client told us her grandson excels at many sports, won his middle school’s National Geographic Bee, and raises pigs in a 4-H program. While he is a pretty serious young man, he does have a sense of humor about his pigs. She has been subscribing her grandson to National Geographic magazine for years.

Recipient: Client's friend
Occasion: Birthday
Client told us her friend loves to travel, and that the two of them recently took a fabulous trip to Rome. Her friend is very proud of her Italian heritage, but had never been to Italy. The two joked about Angela (the friend) going to Rome, like Peggy-Sue Got Married, and hence Angela became Angel-Sue on their trip. Her Italian consists only of a few phrases, which we were sure to incorporate. One became the magazine title. We then added a few scenery pics and translated the entire cover into Italian.

Recipient: Client's son
Occasion: Christmas
Client described her son, age 17, whom she described as a true Renaissance man… artist, musician, actor, engineering student, very mechanically inclined, and loves Star Trek, several popular technical and mechanical-type magazines, and skiing. His high school senior picture gave us a great start! We added the ski slope and trig chart.

Recipient: Client's brother
Occasion: Christmas
Client told us her brother lives in Chicago and loves the opera. He spends most of his social time with his opera friends. We found the name of an opera house in Chicago, and used it. The rest of the theme was on us, and doesn’t he make a great-looking Pirate King? You can see we didn't use much of the original photo.

Recipient: Client's brother and sister-in-law
Occasion: Expecting their first child
Client wrote a poem for the couple in honor of them becoming new parents. The only photo she had was a hard copy, which had been folded (you can see the crease), so we scanned it and made it work. The poem is the text shown on the cover.

Recipient: Client's daugher
Occasion: Christmas
Client told us her daugher was a student pursuing a career as a television/movie writer/producer, and would soon be interning in Los Angeles. She’s a very determined and accomplished young woman, but often seems unaware of her beauty, charisma, and talents. Mom is definitely not unaware!

Recipient: Client's father
Occasion: Birthday
The client told us her family teases her father about 2 things: driving the same old Taurus since as far back as they can remember, and wearing sunglasses that are much too big for his face.
Magazine Cover Story
Recipient: Client's husband
Occasion: Christmas
Client described her husband as a brilliant business guy working in the biotech community surrounded by brilliant scientists. She’s a fashion fanatic, and he can’t match his pants and shirt to save his life. He wears a lot of Hawaiian shirts, even in winter, which she hates. He has a thing for this 1970s black patchwork leather vest that she finds horribly embarrassing, and finally threw it away. She told us that since she nags him about the way he dresses so much, she felt obligated to make a fun gift out of it. We were provided the fantastic photos shown (we merged her husband’s photo with the masked lab folks) and quotes she had obtained from her husband’s coworkers. They were in on the surprise.
We made up a science magazine to fit his work environment, but added ill-fitting blurbs on the cover akin to checkout-aisle magazine covers. The article itself is about fashion, written as though his off-beat style is hitting the runways as the newest, hippest trend. We added some “ads”—some fake, some real―that somehow tied in… one for the company where the couple met, a fake lab-related ad, and some (again, ill-fitting) dating service ads with altered tag lines, personal products, etc., the idea being that none of the latter would ever appear in a real science journal. The “bi-line author” of the articled was named Donovan Godare. The client told us that whenever she started commenting on her husband’s outfit, his response was typically, “Don’t even go there.”

Newpaper Article
Recipient: Client's father
Occasion: Birthday
Client described each of the members of her family… what each did for a living, and a few little quirky details: a serious water shortage at one home, a sister who faints at the sight of blood, another who is notorious for being perfectly organized. The family gets together annually at one sister’s home in Hinesburg, Vermont, and among the activities is usually a game of family baseball. The article was written about the game, incorporating all of the details we were given about each member of the family. The client also had the final article formatted for 11”x17” paper (landscape) to use as placemats for her father’s birthday dinner, and of course gave him this version shown, wrapped as his birthday present.

Mosaic Photo Collage
Recipient: The client commissioned this product for herself.
Occasion: None
Client provided multiple color photographs of 22 members of her family. Some were snapshots of multiple family members we were able to crop out separately. Each was converted to sepia and then cropped to 2”x2” squares. A wide ivory mat and burl-wooden frame really finished it off… very striking. This collage can also be done with varying sized crops (as shown on the Photo Collages page).
Photo Gallery
Recipient: Client's daughter and son-in-law
Occasion: Housewarming gift
The client provided us six color digital photos. We resized, converted to black&white, cropped, and printed. In this case, all of the photos were printed as 8"x10"s but any combination of 4"x6"s, 5"x7"s, and 8"x10"s would also work well. Then all six were matted and framed to be hung as a set.

Something Else In Mind...
Shown are examples of some things we've done outside usual product lines.
Album Promotion
This was a gift we did for an old boss in honor of his 50th birthday… In case he’s looking… by “old,” we mean “prior,” not “ancient.”
We added our boss's face to the Fab Four on his favorite album cover, with a bunch of his staff hidden in the crowd. We also included a little representation of his favorite team, the Red Sox... Bobby Bosox bobblehead and a baseball hat. Then we ever so slightly, but rather obnoxiously, altered some song titles to further razz him about hitting the big 5-0 (Peaceful Easychair Feeling--Eagles, Crazy Little Thing Called Love Handles--Queen, and our personal favorite What a Stool Relieves--Doobie Brothers, just to name a few) . It was hanging on the wall in his office the next morning.
Concert Poster
This was a gift we did for a friend for her birthday. She’s a fair amount older than she looks, and prides herself on being the spitting image of Madonna (okay, whatever). The up-front image with the party hats on her chest is a memoir from a New Year’s Eve party a few years back. We gave her this fabulous poster of Madonna’s “comeback concert.” If you read it closely, we had a lot of fun at our friend’s expense. We all signed the mat before framing it. She really loved it.
